And, bread day is the perfect time to try baking some fresh bread for your family or friends.
Bread is a staple of life! For thousands of years many varieties of breads around the world were baked or fried and eaten. As far back as 10,000 B.C. people were making breads.
Today with automatic bread makers which are so simple to use the homes of many have the aromas of fresh breads baking. Hot breads smothered in butter and maybe a touch of jam or peanut butter just taste so good.
Our favorite bread homemade is of course Italian Bread.
Native American Indians made a bread called Fry Bread.
Our Fry Bread Recipe
- Prep Time: 10-15 minutes
- Total Time: about 30
Instructions
4 cups all-purpose flour1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups warm water
4 cups shortening for frying
Combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
Stir in 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water.
Knead until soft but not sticky.
Shape dough into balls about 3 inches in diameter.
Flatten into patties 1/2 inch thick, and make a small hole in the center of each patty for proper cooking
2.Fry one at a time in 1 inch of hot shortening, turning to brown on both sides. (( Or a Deep Fryer ))
Drain on paper towels. Best served hot.
